Class of: 1968
Jim graduated from CPHS in 1968. He completed an apprenticeship program at U.S. Steel and received his BS from Purdue University- West Lafayette- School of Technology. He stayed in the “region” to raise his three children and to pursue a career at U.S. Steel. During his career, he managed the Iron Producing Division and retired in 2003 after 34 years of service. Currently, he is the Corporate Safety Director for the ACMS Group, Inc. and consults with a number of local companies on OSHA Regulations. He has been a long time supporter of “Junior Achievement,” the “United Way,” and “Opportunity Enterprises.”

Terry is a 1967 Graduate Of Crown Point High School. He attended Porter Business College, and was a former sports writer for the Lake County Star & Register. He is retired from U.S. Steel and resides in Valparaiso with his wife, Christine (’69). They have six children and 16 grandchildren.

Deborah graduated from CPHS in 1969. She attended Purdue University, W. Lafayette; until 1973 when she was offered a management position with Carson Pirie Scott in Chicago. In 1978, preferring the warmer weather of her home state of Texas, she accepted a marketing position with Alcon Labs in Ft. Worth. Then in 1984, after a transfer, to North Carolina, Deborah became the S.E. Regional Sales Manager/Trainer for Neutrogena Corp. After 12 years in beauty care and then 13 years in pharmaceutical sales, she returned to Crown Point in 2009. Coming back to Crown Point gives Deborah the opportunity to be with her family, continue her volunteer work with the Humane Society and give back to the community.

Chris is a 1969 graduate of CPHS. She received her International Clerks Certification after completion of studies at the University of Washington. She served as City Clerk/Treasurer for the City of Deer Park Washington until September 2000 when she retired from the profession. Chris was also recognized as a professional Finance Officer through the State of Washington. She is married to Terry Lee a 1967 graduate of CPHS. They reside in Valparaiso, Indiana.

Dan graduated from CPHS in 1989. After graduation he served with the United States Marine Corps as a Helicopter Mechanic until 1994. During this time, he was deployed several times to the Persian Gulf region in support of Operation(s) Desert Shield, Desert Storm and Desert Calm, as well as to the coast of Africa for Operation Restore Hope in Somalia. Dan has attended IVY Tech State College, Purdue University Calumet and Loyola University in Chicago. He currently resides in Crown Point and has 3 daughters that are part of the Crown Point Community School Systems. Dan has been working for AT&T (Formerly Cingular Wireless) since 2001 as a Sr. Technical Architect within the IT Organization.

Wendy graduated CPHS in 1969. She attended Purdue University where she earned a Bachelors of Science in Biology Education. She taught General Science for three years and then left the teaching field. From teaching, Wendy moved onto retail and worked as a sales associate, member of the display team, and the training representative for L.S. Ayres in Merrillville. Wendy left Ayres to be a full-time mother to her daughter, Gennie. When Gennie entered first grade, Wendy returned to teaching by substituting in several school corporations near her home. From there, she returned to college earning a Bachelors of Education in Elementary Education from Indiana-Purdue Fort Wayne. Wendy’s substituting eventually led to a full-time teaching position in the Adult Education program with Warsaw Community Schools. Wendy recently retired from teaching to take care of other obligations in her life.

Irene was a business major at CPHS and graduated in 1967. She went on to attend Gale Institute at Minneapolis-St Paul. Irene was top student in teletype and had an interview with the FBI. She started her business career at the Commercial Bank in Crown Point and continued in banking off and on until 2000. In 2000, she was hired as office manager for Westphal’s Heating & A/C in Crown Point She is currently 3rd Vice President (membership chairman) for the South Lake County Agricultural Historical Society.
One of the most exciting things in Irene’s life was going to CPHS and being in the #1 marching band (Marching Bulldogs) who won 1st at state in 1965.

Name: Dana (Henderson) Zurbriggen

Dana graduated from CPHS in 1987 and attended Indiana University and the University of Seville with correspondence graduate credits from Indiana Wesleyan University and California State University. She taught Spanish for two years at Wabash High School in Wabash, Indiana before returning to Crown Point to teach Spanish and English. She is married to Paul Zurbriggen, a CPHS grad from the class of 1988, and the Zurbriggens have recently adopted two beautiful children.

Name: Charles “Bud” Bowman

Charles “Bud” Bowman taught from August 1959 – June 1994. He taught Biology, Advanced Biology, General Science, Health, and U.S. History. Mr. Bowman also served as Class Sponsor to the Biology Club.
